As of april 6th 1971, exactly fifty years ago, the musical genius Igor Fiodorovitch Stravinsky, born in 1882 in Oranienbaum, Russia, passed away in New York. He was one of the most prolific composers of the XXth century, a gifted pianist and conductor. This exquisite portrait of the Maestro was made in1971 by belgian artist Jan Burssens (1925-2002), who painted a whole series of celebrities' portraits. (Musical Instruments Museum) in Phoenix, Arizona. Belgian Art Gallerists held their annual general assembly on February 28 2018 at "La Fleur en papier doré - Het Goudblommeke van papier", the iconic café in downtown Brussels where famous artists as Magritte, Alechinsky and Hergé met frequently. Writer Hugo Claus, presently honored with an exhibition at Bozar 10 years after his passing, celebrated his first marriage there. The picture at the back featuring owner Geert Van Bruaene (seated), Marcel Mariën, René & Georgette Magritte, Irène Hamoir, E.L.T. Mesens, Scutenaire and Paul Colinet was taken in 1953.
